Speaking

Dr. Dave Rueter is an experienced conference presenter having spoken at district and synodical conferences as well as youth gatherings.
Dave has presented on his books
Teaching the Faith at Home and Called to Serve as well as on the LCMS Young Adult Survey (Relationships Count).

“I could listen to Dave talk all day! He’s a wealth of knowledge on faith formation, current research and application, and helpful ministry practices. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to him speak many times, sharing his valuable insights on helping teach the faith to a younger generation. I always learn something helpful.”

Cassie Moore, DCE, Author, Speaker

I would like to endorse Dr. Dave Rueter from Livermore, California, as a speaker in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod for Fuller's Growing Young. Dave spoke at the October 2018 LCMS Kansas District Educators Conference in Salina, Kansas, on the topic, “A Heart of Teaching the Faith in the Home, School, and Church,” before an audience of 130 classroom teachers and parish ministry practitioners.

The conference evaluations about his hour-long presentation were all in agreement: Dr. Rueter met our expectations! His presentation gave insight on the timely topic that parents are the single greatest influence on the future faith lives of children and youth. His material was useful to all ministry settings. His presentation style was interactive, engaging, and thorough. He was friendly, focused, exceptionally knowledgeable, and relaxed.  As a result of his presentation, educators were inspired and motivated to proactively address the well-being of children, youth, and families.

Dr. Rueter would greatly serve the communities wherever he is invited to speak!

Speaking Topics

  • Teaching the Faith at Home

Based on his doctoral research and published through Concordia Publishing House, Dr. Rueter presents on the connection between the church and the home as it relates to catechesis and faith formation in children into their teen years and beyond.

  • Growing Young

Based on the research found in the book Growing Young and corroborated by the LCMS Young Adult Research (see Relationships Count from CPH) this cohort-based process will walk your church leaders through a congregational assessment, provide training based on the book Growing Young, and provide on-going coaching and peer support as you seek to map out and then live out a strategy to better connect young people in your ministry.

  • Growing With

Drawn from the ongoing research of the Fuller Youth Institute, Growing With helps provide both church and school ministries with parent training along with support training for staff to help equip parents to understand how their children grow and develop in their faith and life and how they can grow along with them in that process.

  • Called to Serve

Based on his research into the Lutheran theology of ministry and published through Concordia Publishing House, this presentation explores what it means to be a commissioned minister in the LCMS and how that ministry relates to the Office of the Public Ministry.

  • Engaging the Brain

Thinking in youth ministry? Sounds like an oxymoron, right? Yet, our youth need to learn how to think in order to maintain faith in a world hostile to the Gospel message. Learn how establishing a thinking climate in your church can help your youth grow deeper and dig deeper in their faith while helping to connect them more firmly to Christ and the life of your congregation.

  • Getting Your Shoes Dirty

Life is messy. This is especially true in the lives of the teens that we are called to serve. Explore what it means to walk with youth in the messiness of their lives, learning how to get dirty without being consumed.

  • The Changing Face of Discipleship

Change always takes place, yet in the past two years that pace has rapidly accelerated. What are the challenges we face in approaching discipleship moving forward? How can we address the need to adapt and change due to forces beyond our control while keeping these adaptations grounded in who we are as Lutheran Christians? What are practical approaches that balance technology with our human need to gather together from growth and support?
